Bitcoin address checker

Paste a Bitcoin address before you send. We verify its checksum, show its balance and history, and compare it with your own transactions to catch lookalike addresses planted with dust.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a Bitcoin address is valid?
Every Bitcoin address has a built-in checksum. Legacy addresses (starting with 1) and script addresses (starting with 3) use Base58Check; bc1q addresses use Bech32 and bc1p (Taproot) addresses use Bech32m. CryptGuard recalculates the checksum, so a single wrong or missing character is caught. It also rejects testnet addresses, Lightning invoices and addresses from other blockchains.
What is Bitcoin address poisoning?
A scammer generates an address whose first and last characters match one you really use, then sends you a tiny "dust" amount from it so it appears in your history. If you later copy the address from your history, you pay the scammer. It is rarer on Bitcoin than on Ethereum, but it happens. Add your own address and CryptGuard compares the recipient with your recent transactions.
Can CryptGuard tell me who owns a Bitcoin address?
No, and we do not pretend to. There is no free, verifiable source of owner labels for Bitcoin addresses, so we show only what the blockchain proves: balance, history, address type, reuse, and patterns such as dust spraying or coins being swept away the moment they arrive. Always confirm an address with the recipient directly.
The checker says the address has never been used. Is that bad?
Usually not. Good wallets give you a fresh receive address for every payment, so a new address with no history is normal. It just has no track record, so check every character and send a small test amount first for large payments. Bitcoin payments cannot be reversed.
